Welcome

to Herd on the Hill Sanctuary

Eco friendly animal sanctuary, in the heart of West Wales

Introduction

Herd on the Hill Sanctuary exists to rescue and rehabilitate all non human animals, and to leave a legacy of enriched biodiversity.
The sanctuary is home to 38 rescued horses, chickens, dogs and cats. Most of whom would have sadly been put to sleep, had we not offered them a home for life.
We are creating a thriving haven for native plants and wildlife, where we can also offer a safe and therapeutic space for human wellbeing.

Our team

The sanctuary has been the lifelong dream of the founder and manager, Maria Olarte, who spends all of her time helping to care for the ever increasing animal population.
We have an ever increasing team of volunteers and helpers, adding their skill and knowledge.
One of the major benefits for volunteers is to be able to reconnect with nature and themselves.
If you're interested in natural animal care or biodiversity, and have a few hours to spare, we'd love to hear from you.

The future

All the animals are cared for as naturally as possible, but there is always more we can do.
We are working to improve their living environments, create more behaviour enrichment, and plan to introduce more planting that can be used for natural remedies.
Along with the beneficial planting for our rescued animals, we are also engaged in re-wilding much of the land, with species diverse habitats.
